How to Apply

Step 1

Make sure you meet the initial criteria to qualify for services:

YOU MUST LIVE IN LEON COUNTY AND YOUR CASE MUST BE IN LEON COUNTY.

YOUR CASE/LEGAL ISSUE MUST BE IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING AREAS: 

  • Paternity

  • Adoption (Step-Parents)

  • Divorce

  • Child Support

  • Custody/Visitation

  • Expungement

  • Wills

  • Landlord/Tenant

  • Probate

  • Property

  • Foreclosure

IF YOU DO NOT MEET THE ABOVE CRITERIA PLEASE DO NOT PROCEED WITH AN APPLICATION.

Step 2

  1. Download the LAF Fillable PDF Application linked below

  2. Save as the following file name: FirstNameLastName

  3. Then Close

  4. Open the saved file as a PDF

  5. Type your information into the form

  6. Save

  7. Email Document to intake@legalaidtallahassee.org

The application must be completed in full including your original or electronic signature. Our office will not accept nor review partially completed applications.

Completed applications can be scanned and emailed, or mailed or hand-delivered to the address below. The office does not have a fax.

A drop box is located outside of our office if you come by outside of business hours.

It is checked daily.

Applications are also available at our office in the Leon County Courthouse, or we can mail an application to you. Please contact our office to provide your information. 

Step 3

Because of the number of applications we receive, please allow seven business days for your application to be processed and follow up with a phone call to 850-222-3292 to check on the status. We understand the importance of your legal issue/case, but we ask for your patience as the demand unfortunately exceeds the number of volunteers available.

Step 4

​Once you are notified that you have been found eligible for the Pro Bono Legal Service program you will need to make an appointment for a phone consultation, or an in-office consultation with our staff attorney or a volunteer. Please have any paperwork related to your legal matter ready to be reviewed by an attorney.

  • Information about the income and expenses of everyone living in the household

  • Any court papers, leases, or contracts that relate to your legal matter

  • The names and addresses of the people involved with your problem

No application is denied for reasons of race, sex, creed, color, religion, age, national origin, marital status, disability, or sexual orientation.
